the waterfront in historical Kailua-Kona, Hulihee
Palace was built in 1838 as a home for High Chief
Kuakini, governor of the island of Hawaii.
Today, it has been restored and furnished to reflect
the lifestyle of the Hawaiian royalty in the late
1800s. |

Collections:
house (c. 1838) built by Governor Kuakini as a vacation residence for Hawaiian
royalty, restored to the Kaläkaua period; Hawaiian royalty furniture
and artifacts, portraits, tapa, feather work and Hawaiian quilts
Programs and tours: guided tours by request, rotating
and temporary exhibitions, pageants and concerts by the sea,
dance demonstrations and crafts
Special events: Arts and Crafts Fair, first Saturday/Sunday
of November; Kuhio Weekend, March; Royal Tea, during Aloha
Festivals; concerts, usually fourth Sunday, monthly
Membership: Daughters of Hawaii, Auxiliary: Calabash Cousins
Facilities: rental facilities available, handicap access (call to
