On the waterfront in historical Kailua-Kona, Hulihe‘e Palace was built in 1838 as a home for High Chief Kuakini, governor of the island of Hawai‘i. Today, it has been restored and furnished to reflect the lifestyle of the Hawaiian royalty in the late 1800s.


 
  Collections: house (c. 1838) built by Governor Kuakini as a vacation residence for Hawaiian royalty, restored to the Kaläkaua period; Hawaiian royalty furniture and artifacts, portraits, tapa, feather work and Hawaiian quilts

Programs and tours: guided tours by request, rotating and temporary exhibitions, pageants and concerts by the sea, dance demonstrations and crafts

Special events: Arts and Crafts Fair, first Saturday/Sunday of November; Kuhio Weekend, March; Royal Tea, during Aloha Festivals; concerts, usually fourth Sunday, monthly

Membership: Daughters of Hawai‘i, Auxiliary: Calabash Cousins

Facilities: rental facilities available, handicap access (call to inquire - may be limited); meeting room with kitchen, capacity 25; gift shop
