"Take a Trip Back In Time” and
discover history Hawaiian style. The islands
history of the railroads, plantations and
local cultures shared in photos, video and stories.
Gift shop available and on-going restorations on track.
Laupahoehoe Train Museum and Visitor Center Located on highway 19, near mile marker 25 (look for the brown Hilo-Hamakua Heritage Coast signs and the railroad crossing signs in the front lawn). There's more than meets the eye. Housed in a beautifully restored railroad employee home, on the site of the old Laupahoehoe Train Station, furnished in the period of the early 1900’s. Public restrooms and Gift Shop available; on-going engine and caboose restorations on track.

Collections: Many beautiful family photos donated by railroad families. Memorabilia and artifacts from railroads, plantations, and life in the olden days. Track, caboose and engine restoration on site. New model train room being built.
Programs and tours: Tours are provided for groups at a discounted rate, call the museum to set up a scheduled tour.
Special events: Anniversary celebrations held on odd years.
