| The
Visitor Center is the Field Office of the operating sugar plantation
located on the west side of Kauai. Displays show the history
of Gay & Robinson Inc., Olokele Sugar Co., Hawaiian Sugar
Co. (a k a Makaweli Plantation) and Makaweli Ranch. Both historical
and modern field and factory operations as followed in Hawaii,
and various artifacts are also exhibited. A world sugar map
showcases sugar politics and current events. |

Programs and tours: Two-hour Sugar Plantation tours offered
weekdays 9:00 am and 1:00 pm (minimum age, eight years during harvesting
and five years during off season); field and factory operations are covered
as well as history and culture. Tours of working sugar plantation are conducted
throughout the year, harvesting from April to Octoberno operations
during rain. Three-hour tour to Olokele Overlook offered weekday mornings
at 8:30 am by appointment onlyincludes lunch. Tour offers views of
sugar fields and ranch operations and includes the 1904 Olokele ditch and
hydroelectric plant.
