| Kilauea Point Natural History Association (KPNHA) is situated on the 32-acre peninsula bluff high above the surging swells at the northernmost tip of Kauai, site of the 203 acres Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge. The area offers sweeping views of the spectacular rugged coastline, a seabird sanctuary, and a National Marine Sanctuary. It is the home of the Kilauea Lighthouse built in 1913 which is on the State and National Historic Registers. Visitors may see the nene or Hawaiian goose, red-footed boobies, Laysan albatrosses, wedge-tailed shearwaters, white-tailed and red-tailed tropicbirds, great frigatebirds and the Pacific golden plovers. Hawaiian green sea turtles, spinner dolphins, Hawaiian monk seals and humpback whales can be seen in the waters surrounding the cliffs. |
