Experience "real Hawaii." Journey back to the early 1900s, come explore a sugar plantation village and botanical garden featuring historic homes and plants reflecting the cultural diversity of the islands. Hear personal stories of struggle and triumph revealing how plantation laborers from China, Portugal, Japan, Puerto Rico, Okinawa, Korea and the Philippines ventured to Hawai‘i in search of a better future. By adapting and blending their way of life, these pioneers together with the Native Hawaiians created a new, thriving multi-cultural society. Take this journey into the past with inspiring lessons for the future.


 
 

Collections: outdoor history museum with restored buildings and replicas of plantation structures; exhibits on history of Hawaii’s multiethnic sugar plantation workers; artifacts; library and photograph collection on plantation history from 1830s to 1950s on all islands, especially the O‘ahu Sugar Records, including domestic implements, clothing, documents, correspondence, birth and death certificates, medical records, employee ledgers, scientific testings

Programs and tours: exhibitions, guided tours, demonstrations, school tours and programs, outreach program to schools (by request), teacher training programs; research by appointment only

Special Events: performances, demonstrations and festivals throughout the year (schedules available)

Membership: Youth (17 and under) $10, Student $15, Individual $25, Double Seniors (up to two adults 62+ yrs) $20, Family $40, Family Plus $55, Supporting Members $100-$999, Sustaining Members (2 year term) $1000+.
