Pick up a hiking trail map at the orientation center to explore Kahana Valley State Park, the only state-owned ahupua‘a (land division that runs from the ocean to the mountain ridge) left intact from prehistoric times. The park includes archaeological sites, a prehistoric fishpond, fishing shrine, gardens, taro lo‘i and streams. It is also home to residents with historical ties to the valley.

Programs and tours: Walk-in visitors may obtain information and a hiking trail brochure at the orientation center. Programs, currently restricted to groups and school tours by reservations, include orientation talks; craft and work demonstrations at the fishpond, taro lo‘i and the beach; workshops and school tours
