| Learn about the dramatic story of cultural change that took place in the nineteenth-century Hawai'i at Mission Houses Museum. Take guided tours of three historical structures. Learn of the daily life and work of American missionaries and their influential role in Hawai'i's history. The Hawaiian Mission Children's Society Library is located in the administration building and is open to the public. The Hawaiian Historical Society shares the Reading Room. Please call for hours. |

Collections: Three historical houses (1821-41), the original headquarters for American Protestant Mission; nineteenth-centruy artifacts of missionary and Hawaiian origin, including household furnishings, clothing, decorative arts, tools and medical equipment; working replica of a Ramage printing press. The Mission Houses Library contains the earliest books printed in the Hawaiian language. These books were used by missionaries and scholars in church and school, as well as a comprehensive collection of missionary letters, journals, Hawaiian church records, Hawaiian language materials, photographs and images of Hawai'i and the Pacific

Free printing press demonstrations are held each Wednesday at 1:00 on a working replica of the first printing press to be brought to Hawai'i.
